Week 6

Your impressions of the United States sure have changed since you've been here! I remember when I lived in Barcelona, Spain. The people I met thought that most Americans carried a gun. They thought I ate hamburgers every day and were surprised that I was nice and kind. They expected me to not be able to speak Spanish and to be rude. I hope that I changed their impressions of Americans.

Our first essay will be about how you have adapted to your new environment. Our first discussion of this chapter was about animals and how they adapt. This week I want you to share with us what animal you would choose to describe yourself. I would have to say a duck for me. Ducks look so calm moving along the water on a pond, but really they are paddling hard under the water. I may appear calm, but I'm actually very busy with work and kids and life!

  2. When I was very little, my grandmother used to say that her only grandson is a tiger. It means my life will be similar with that of the tiger in many aspects such as the character, behavior, and fortune. In Asia, it is believed that every person has his symbolic animal among twelve animals like the Zodiac sign of astrology, which is decided by the year of birth. I was born not only in the year of the tiger but also on the month and on the day of tiger in lunar calendar. The four time elements of birth-the year, month, day, and the time- are called “the four pillars for life”. At any rate, three quarters of my pillars for life are related with tiger. I’m not sure whether it has a little bit something believable or not, but it seems true for me to resemble the tiger in various ways. First, my character is very similar with tiger. I think I am bold and brave. If I have a problem to decide, I fix it very fast. Moreover, once I decide to do, I tend to do it very aggressively. On the other hand, I never move if I have something unlike to do. There was even the time with doing nothing for two years. These are very similar with the habit of tiger. The tiger seldom moves but attack fast when he finds object. Second, I am as impatient as the tiger. Though both the tiger and I look like to endure everything, we have no patience. Even though this character sometimes makes me to be in trouble, I couldn’t fix it. The third resemblance is enjoying loneliness. I like to be alone more than to mix with others the same as the tigers never move around in crowds. Tiger always seeks for prey alone, whereas the lions work together. I don’t like this sort of my character which sometimes led me to success and to be odds with others. Now I am concern that the older I am, the bigger my defects and the smaller my advantages are.

  3. When I was in my hometown, I rarely stayed at home when I finished school or didn't have class. I often went outside with my friends for eating, shopping, riding arround the parks, or whatever. My mom oftens said I look like a small dog. Because I never can't stay a place for a moments. Sometimes I am so calm as a hungry dog, I don't care anything. Sometimes I have a hot temper as a dog when they were stolen food buy another one. In addition, I resemble a dog one point is faithful. If I have friends, I am always faithful with them. I always treat with them in a right way. I will ready help them whatever in my ability. My opinion is to have a little best friends more than many sham friends.
Moreover about envy and fondness of surpassing. If I want do something, I will never give up my goals and do anything to achieve that.

  4. I wish like cattle. In the tradition of China, the cattle represents industrious without complaining. In the ancient periods of China, the machine was not developed, the cattle was the best helper of the mankind. Cattle had big and heavy works in the past. The mankind plowed and planted crops and rice seedlings by cattle so that the mankind had food to eat and living. Plows were pulled by cattle was very hardly. Cattle must plow a heavy plows, and passed by muddy land that was very difficult to move. Cattle worked from daybreak to sunset. Works were big and heavy, but only the cattle could finish this job. Therefore, the cattle is a diligent representative in China. Because of the industrious character, people respect the cattle in China. Even some people don't eat the beef in tradition; they think cattle are peasant's best friends. So I wish to be like cattle, I will do the best in any job. In addition, although the cattle is industrious, the cattle has very strong-minded. The stubbornness which Chinese talk about, it means once stands up stubbornly so anyone can not push it to move. And the cattle will not change his idea. I think that my temper looks like the cattle very much. When I make a decision, it would not be altered easily. I have my own ideas, so other people are unable to change.

  5. In the CERV class class, i studied how the birth-order myth is. Many people think each one is symbolized by an animal and their temper is also similar with the animal they get. I am in the one of them. I think the bear is my symbolization.
The first reason why i think i am symbolized by the bear is my temper is same with its. As a bear, it work hard in the spring and autumn season to collect enough energy for a long winter break. When the winter comes, the bear will find some cave and sleep through the winter. After the winter went away, it work hard again and i am not outside this case. When i have a specific goal in the future, i will study and work very hard to achieve that goal. Eventhough it is real the long time, i will try and try my best to get it. Then, when i achieved my goal, i allow myself have enough break time to rest and prepare for next new goal. I am so lazy in that time and don't want to do anythings.
The second reason is bear symbolized for strength. Besides the intelligence, strength is also important for a man. Having a good strength helps me do anythings i want. For example, protect and take care a person who i love so much or play a sport which it require an excelltent strength like football, boxing. In addition, the main thing which can not argue is the bear is also California's symbolization. Everyone in California have same opinion with me.No one can negative that.
In fact, the bear is my symbolization. I proud of it. If someone ask you why everyone chose the bear like a symbolization, let say to them "ask the citizens of California state and they will explain to you."

  6. If I would describe me with animal, I think I would say a sloth for me. A sloth looks very lazy and slow. A sloth usually stays at one place. Also, he sleeps for 16~ 18 hours a day. Actually, I'm lazy, too. Also, I don't like to move a lot like a sloth. However, a sloth is always not lazy. If he fell from tree, his moving is very fast to climb a tree. Also, I am. If something I have to do right now, I do without delay. In addition, if I find one place which I am satisfied with, I seldom move to another place.

  8. When I was a child, two of my front teeth were big. In addition, when I ate cookie, I liked to hold it by two hands and nibble it by my front teeth. My friends gave me a nickname “mouse”. They were friendly to call my nickname and I liked the nickname because I thought mice are cute and I though I were a mouse person. Now, I think myself as a cat because a cat usually looks calm and lazy. I must admit that I am lazy. Furthermore, I don’t like to go outside often. Sometimes I like to hang out with my good friends, but I spend most time with my family. For example, although it took 4 hours from my home to school, I went home every week when I was an university student. Therefore, I describe myself as a cat.

  9. If I have to describe myself animals, it would probably be faithful dogs. Dogs are the most faithful and sociable animals to mankind because dogs can be a friend, and sometimes protector, and so on. I would also like to be the most intimate friend and the powerful supporter... etc. to my family, especially my son. Though I refuse my son's proposal at first, eventually I readily accept my son's various needs that are firm and consistent, and always try to have my behaviors gentle and affectionate to my sons as dogs do. The dog greets the owner invariably with wagging his tail whenever he comes back home, I am also pleasant and rejoiced whenever I see my son. In other words, I am continuously getting consolation and pleasure as dogs are. Exactly speaking, preferably I want to receive loves and affections from my family as dogs are eager to have loves and concerns from his owner.

  11. I often have visited Warsaw ZOO in Poland since I love an elephants. I have watched also many nature movies about elephant’s life. I think this is the best animal to describe myself for three reasons. At first, an elephants look pretty slow and heavy the same as me, yet in reality they aren’t. For instance, when these animals feel danger, they can run very fast. The same is in my case, I usually don’t hurry anywhere, yet if it necessary I’m as quick as flash. Second, an elephants look trustworthy and wise like any other animals. Some people – not only my friends or family - think the same about me, so they trust me and ask for advice. Third, an Elephants have specific habits, for example from time to time they need to travel long distance to lick salty rock (there are some minerals which an elephants need to exist). One of the reasons why I’m here in U.S. is that I wanted to try American life style and now I can calmly get back to my ‘herd’. All in all, If I were an elephant I wouldn’t change my name.

  12. In my experience, I think I just like a sheep. A little sheep always follow the leader or his mother, whereas, I always follow my parents and siblings. It’s obvious that I’m a person who always rely on others. I always take my parents arranged for the best way, and I never think about myself too much, including went aboard. Just like a sheep always follow the leader wherever he go. At the same, if the leader of sheep die, they will choose the other sheep to be a leader, then continue follow him. I remember my mother always accompanied me from primary to high school. And I’ve never forgotten that my mother even rented a house near my school, just for looking after me, because I entered the school very far from my home. What’s more, now, I’m in America, I still depend on my older sister. I can’t do anything without my sister. My sister helped me apply for an American school and register the school and pick up me to go to school, besides, she will prepare the dinner for me everyday. Sometimes, I even often follow CLARE who is one of my classmates, and ask her to do something with me. From above, I just like a sheep, always depend on others.

  14. I would have to say a wild dog for me. The wild dogs are different from the family dogs because they don’t live with people. I don’t like to live under the control of other people just like the wild dogs. Also, wild dogs are nocturnal animal. Usually, they are active at night. I think I also am more active at night. In the afternoon, I feel very tired, but in the night I feel very awake so I usually study or play at night. Lastly, wild dogs usually live in groups of ten. I don’t like to stay by myself so I usually do something with friends like wild dogs.

  15. I never think about this subject. If I describe myself as animal, I would say an otter, European otter. When my mom, sister and me watch a documentary program about an otter, we found something cute about an otter. When they get a fish, they are so excited. So they swim like around and around in the water. After that documentary show, mom and sister said "you are like that an otter." But I didn't understand why they said that. So I asked them. They said "when you have really good food or your favorite food, you are so excited like an otter." When they said that, I thought about that. I think they are right. Because I like food a lot. An otter is very actively animal. They like to play with their friends. I like to play with my friends, too. And also, they can smell really well. Actually I can smell really well, too. One different thing is that I'm not cute like them. If I have cute face, this week subject might be better.

  16. If I would describe myself to animal, I would be monky. I think monky is very smart and prankster.
In addition, sometimes monky is very violence. If you approach easliy, you can get hurt from monky. Because If monky think that someone is weaker than monky, the monky lord it over someone. However, If monky think that the monky weaker than someone, monky obey to the person.
For example, They catch the louse for the person, and very friendly. However, monky always watch for opportunity of mischief, so if you stay with monky, you naver look sharp, but it will be very funny with monky.

  17. I would describe myself as a bird. The first reason is I am talkative like a bird is singing. I can talk with different person about different subjects, and I also switch topics and person who I talk with very quickly. Second, I like freedom like a bird is flying. I don’t want to be limited by anyone. I would adapt new life easily, so I like to move from one place to other, as a bird’s migration. Moreover, I have a good relationship with my family like birds do, because birds always get up early to seek food for their children. Before their children grew up, they teach their children how to fly. When they can fly, their parents will tell to leave home and to be independent, like my parents did. That’s why I choose a bird to describe myself.

  18. The type of animal that I’m very similar to is a cow. My personality is very similar to a cow because a cow is very diligent and patient. Also, cow’s are very nice and they don’t’ get mad easily. However, when a cow gets mad, their emotions blow up and they become very scary. I find myself being very similar to that type of personality.

  19. If I would discribe myself to animale, I would be dog. My friend said before you are like dog. becasue you are social. When my friend is gone, for he moved to another place, or went back country. I always could have a new friend soon. That is why, my friend said you are social.
but in my opinion, I would be cat. because i am lazy man. I am often abset class. I cant concentrate on doing something for long time.So my personality is like cat.
